The Horses

At the collage we have 17 horses they are all very friendly. All of the horse stay in during the day and get turned out at night in the summer time. In the winter all the horses stay in at night and get turned out during the day.

The horses are Wag, Rose, Hi Fi, Ollie, Woodie, Magners, Max, Whisper, Rocky, Casper, Izzy, Tashe, Frankie and Teddy. All of these horses get used by students in and out of a school. They all get lounged and jump. Some are slightly easier to ride than others so some horses only get ridden by 2nd and 3rd years.

Then we have Amy, Emma and Sprite. Theses do not get ridden. This is because Amy and Emma are youngsters and have not been broken properly and Sprite does not get used as he has teeth problems.

the yard

Hi i am Chris
The yard is called Achavarole and it is placed just out side of Halkirk. The yard is part of a farm complex so it covers a large area with the big yard having 15 boxes and the small isolation yard having 5 boxes.

The yard also has one indoor school and one sand school, the indoor school is 40m by 20m and the sand school is 20m by 60m.

We have three main fields tow up the back and one out the front but although we have three fields the access is not good two any of them. Also the the track up two the back field is really muddy.

The farmer also has his silage heap on site so it really smells

Tutors

Hey! My name is Emma and i am going to tell you a bit about the teachers at the yard we work at which is called Achavrole. All together there are five teachers at the yard, and each one teaches different things.

First of all there is Allistair Matheson, he's a laid back type of guy thats up for a laugh now and again. At the yard Allistair teaches us BHS Training on a Monday afternoon, Lungeing on a Wednesday afternoon and Stable Routine on a Thursday afternoon.

Then there's Mary Elder, she's far stricter than Allistair but nice to get on with. On Wednesday mornings Mary teaches us Horse Handling and on Thursday mornings Equitation 1.

Next there's Liz Alexander, she's right enough to get on with but doesn't take us for riding lessons. She teaches us Basic Care Of Horses At Grass on a Monday morning.

Also there is Marion who is the yard manager, very laid back and also helps us with things like tacking up the horses and giving them their feeds. James is the head of the course, don't actually see him that much at the yard but nice to get on with.
